Good news everyone!

Towards the end of November 2019, I went to see my doctor, the aptly-named Dr Watson, a very pleasant Scottish lady who has been a great help to me. We have had an ongoing dialogue regarding my weight for some time, and she was pleased that I had lost a few pounds this time. So pleased in fact, that she was happy to refer me again to see a surgeon about my knees!

Roll on a few weeks and (following an MRI and some x-rays) I’m sat in front of a surgeon at KIMS hospital in Maidstone. I had prepared myself to be rejected again… I’m too heavy, I’m too young, the knees will wear out… blah blah blah…

Much to my surprise, the nice Mr Gill agreed to perform surgery, and suggested that a partial knee replacement – a Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty – on my right knee initially, and hopefully left knee will follow (as they are both in a similar state and as painful as each other).

Far less intrusive and a quicker recovery time!

To say I was stunned is an understatement, a surgeon was prepared to take a positive step towards relieving me of some of the pain I’m in 24 hours a day! I still (2 days before the operation) can’t quite believe it’s going to happen!

It has given me renewed focus on losing some more weight, and I’m pleased to say I have, I’m now around 122.5kg (and my starting point was, at worst 136kg!), I feel good because of it, no… I feel GREAT because of it!

I’ll be blogging about the whole experience, so stay tuned! I wonder if I can get some photos during the operation!??? hmmmmm
